Description
Finally, a more heat-tolerant and less-finicky Pieris! If you’ve tried to grow Pieris in your landscape or gardens in the past without much luck ‘Mountain Snow’ Pieris is here to change that. We have one planted near our garden pond and it’s done splendidly with absolutely no care other than an annual feeding in spring since planting in 2014. Mountain Snow offers interest in the garden with both foliage and showy blooms. During summer, attractive clusters of pendulous flower stems loaded with buds appear that will persist through winter before opening early the next spring to beautiful bell-shaped ivory flowers. Following flowering attractive bronze new leaves emerge that mature to dark green. Excellent in garden beds or containers.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing about 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide, Mountain Snow Pieris is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, mass plantings, or as a natural hedge in shady to partially shaded landscape and woodland borders and home foundation plantings. They do especially well on fertile embankments, hillsides and slopes. We’ve had good long-term success growing Mountain Snow in pots, planters and other containers and it’s a fine addition to Asian-theme gardens, white theme gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 2.5 feet apart for solid hedges and mass plantings; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Plant your Mountain Snow Pieris in a moist but well drained acidic soil that are rich in organic matter. Add organic compost to heavy clay or poor quality native soils. Pieris prefer growing in a site that provides morning sun with afternoon shade or all-day filtered sun or dappled shade. Avoid direct afternoon sun.
